How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign clear aligners use the same method as other orthodontic treatments: it applies a constant pressure to encourage your teeth to move to the position you desire. Instead of using metal wires and brackets to move teeth, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners that gently and gradually move your teeth.
To begin your treatment, we will start with a consultation. During this time, we will determine if you’re a good candidate. If you are, we will take x-rays and digital impressions of your teeth. Our Hilton Head cosmetic dentists will then design your treatment and each tooth’s position during your entire treatment. We send this information, x-rays, and images to the Invisalign lab to create your aligners.
Once your aligners arrive, you will wear each set for 2 weeks at a time. We recommend wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours per day to move your teeth at the correct speed. It’s important to only remove your aligners for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth. Once two weeks are up, you will move onto the next set of aligners. The clear aligners gradually move your teeth with each new set.
Every six weeks, you will visit us for a checkup so we can see the progression of your treatment. When we’re reaching the end, we may recommend extra sets of aligners if your teeth aren’t in their correct position yet.
